In this live build, I’m taking you along for the entire process of making a minimalist leather wallet completely from scratch. We start with sheets of leather in both 2–3 oz and 3–4 oz weights and turn them into a finished wallet, with every step happening on camera.
I cut the leather, use my xTool P2 laser to cut the wallet pattern, dye the pieces in what turned out to be a beautiful Saddle Tan, and then work through all the parts that turn a collection of leather pieces into an actual wallet—including gluing, edge finishing, and stitching everything together by hand.
There’s no skipping ahead to the finished product in this one. You get to see the good parts, the little challenges, the decisions I make along the way, and the sometimes messy process of figuring things out as I go.
I love projects like this because they combine a little bit of technology with traditional hands-on craftsmanship, and this wallet is a perfect example: the laser gets the pieces cut precisely, but the finished product still depends on dye, glue, carefully finished edges, and a whole lot of stitching.
And when it’s finally finished, this isn’t just a project that sits on a shelf—it’s a minimalist leather wallet that can be used every day.
