With 4 kids in the house we have a lot of snow boots, so for this snow season I decided to build a boot tray. There was absolutely no hesitation in my wife’s response when I asked if she wanted me to build one. This DIY cedar boot tray is 55 inches long and 1 foot wide. It consists of two pieces, the inner rung structure that the boots sit on and an outer frame.
In order to catch the snow and dirty that comes off the boots I cut a dado along the inside of the tray so that I can slide a piece of acrylic in. This clear acrylic allows me to still be able to see the hardwood floors between the rungs in the boot tray, but can catch the water than comes off the boots. When it starts to get dirty, I can slide it out, wash it off, and then side it back in.
This was a fun build and I am glad I got it done at the start of winter so that we can use it all winter long.
